A few hours ago, heartbreaking news reached the Ugandan film fraternity. Regina Ndagire, fondly known as Gina, has passed away.

Whether one knew her personally or not, Gina played a pivotal role in supporting Uganda’s film industry. During her time as Country General Manager at Grips & Sparks, she became a vital bridge for many low-budget filmmakers, enabling them to access professional lighting equipment. At a time when most film sets could not afford high-end ARRI lighting, Gina’s support helped elevate the visual quality of countless Ugandan films.

Gina later joined Buzz Activate, where she was head and continued to make meaningful contributions to the creative industry.
She had been battling a long illness and had spent time in and out of the hospital until she passed on in Nsambya.

Sadly, she lost that battle earlier today.
It is a deeply sad moment, but we also choose to celebrate Gina’s life, her generosity, and her lasting impact on the Ugandan film industry.
