FILM AND CULTURE MARKET

Film and Culture Market is an initiative of Kampala Film development Foundation. Film and Culture Market is a three days culture event which is the intersection of the film industry and cultural consumption. It encompasses the workshops, exhibition, business forum, production, distribution, and consumption of films, as well as the broader cultural impact and influence of those films on society. This market involves various stakeholders, including filmmakers, distributors, exhibitors, audiences, critics, and cultural institutions, all of whom contribute to shaping the cultural landscape through the creation and dissemination of cinematic content between Uganda and other countries. Aiming at defining the market and distribution of Films and cultural exchange.

Film and Culture Market is an annual event between Uganda and other countries that take place in Kampala-Uganda. The week presents creative, challenging and ground breaking film works from Uganda and other countries.  This project features components focusing more on collaboration through Film and cultural diversity that exists between Uganda and other countries.

Film and Culture Market features screenings of Ugandan and other countries’ short and Feature films, works of young Filmmakers, Special events, and opportunities for attendees to meet with the directors, actors, producers, screenwriters, and composers involved in the making of the featured films. The Film and Culture Market highlights more on young filmmakers, offers film workshops for youth and hosts a ‘Film as Business’ forum for economic and social development of young Film makers.

The project’s goal is to remind the young people that working together on protecting and developing the cultural diversity and exchange in our communities through Film is a long-lasting and important process that has recently started and should be kept going on, for as long as possible.

2) TRAININGS (ACTORS, DIRECTORS, PRODUCERS AND MORE)

Actors training classes are on-going since September 2019 up to today at The Uganda National Cultural Centre theatre – Uganda. We have four in-takes a year; each in-take is a maximum of 2 months studying every Tuesday, once every week for a total of 16 hours.

The classes are categorized into three classes, namely; Junior, Senior and Master Class.

We think that this is a fun place to be, where training is constantly happening and youthful Film makers are attending KFDF scholarships, from as far away as Western Uganda.

3) FORUMS (DEBTS, FESTIVALS, CONFERENCES AND BOOT CAMPS)

We hold debts, festivals, conferences and boot camps every year to train, mobilize groups for better productions, award improved skills and recognize the best performers.

Boot Camps are exciting; competition focused training days in which participants usually from different film categories, compete for prizes based on the different Film production levels and stages in a project goal.

Outcome: Youth with a clearer understanding of film making, its capabilities and the part it will play in their careers; specifically, social and economic development.

4) EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

Under this program, we encourage filmmakers in Uganda to exchange working ideas with filmmakers from different countries, for example, film clubs in USA, Kenya, Europe link up with Film clubs in Uganda through different channels like international film Festivals, social media, arranged visits and project volunteering programs.

5) COMMUNITY SCREENINGS AND SENSITIZATION THROUGH FILM

We hold screenings for produced films in different parts of the country, most of the educational or communicative movies are used to sensitize the public about certain styles of living for a social and economic development in people’s lives.

6) COMMUNITY ACTIVATIONS OF FILM PRODUCTION, FILM FUNDING

Under this program, KFDF offers support to the upcoming or struggling filmmakers in Uganda to meet their production costs. We help find funding for viable film projects. With the help of Crowdfunding by kind donors and funders like you, many people under the Kampala Film Development Foundation were given a ‘cost of film production’ relief. But there are still thousands of filmmakers who are in dire need of your support and are waiting for a miracle that could change their lives. Together through fundraising, we can give new lives and hopes to many deserving filmmakers in Uganda.

7) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteering & Community Services; Filmmakers FUN events and coordination of donated items (Mostly Camera gear or any relevant filmmaking equipment). Volunteering is also needed for training at workshops & mentoring at the filmmaking, sensitization, or training Boot Camps.
